1. André Alexis was born in Trinidad. He grew up in Canada.

2. Jeannette Armstrong, an Okanagan Indian, was born in 1948 and grew up on the Penticton Indian Reserve in British Columbia, Canada.

3. George Bowering, just like Jeannette Armstrong, was born in Okanagan Valley in Penticton, British Columbia.

5. Daphne Marlatt was born in Melbourne, Australia. Her family immigrated to Vancouver in 1951.

6. Rohinton Mistry was born in Bombay, India. He immigrated to Canada in 1975.

7. Brian Moore was born in Belfast, N. Ireland. He immigrated to Canada in 1948 at the age of 27. He died in Malibu, California.

8. Michael Ondaatje was born in Colombo, Ceylon (now Sri Lanka). He immigrated to Canada in 1962.

9. I learned of Mordecai Richler's death (July 3rd, 2001) the day I entered his entry in this list. The same day, I also came upon this lovely postcard with Mordecai Richler's caricature on it. I hope its creator (Phil Mallette, Quill & Quire March `92) won't mind my displaying it here, in honour of Mr. Richler. Richler who was born on 27 January, 1931, lost his battle against cancer at the age of 70.

10. Carol Shields was born in Illinois, USA. She moved to Canada when she was 22 and lived here until her death in 2003.
